چکیده

Simultaneous left and right atrial surface electrograms were obtained from the right and left atria of 30 chick embryos. These were divided into 3 equal groups that were studied at 15 to 16, 10 to 11, and 5 to 7 days of incubation. The embryos were removed from the shell with their circulation intact and temperature maintained constant. In an early stage of development (5 to 6 days), the left atrium and its appendage were larger than the right, and left preceded right atrial depolarization. At and after 7 days of incubation, the right atrium and its appendage were larger than the left, and right preceded left atrial depolarization. The intervals for interatrial conduction and for atrioventricular conduction were about the same at all stages of development. Since the length and width of the heart at 15 to 16 days of incubation were about 3 times those of a heart at 5 to 7 days of incubation, it is proposed that the higher the stage of development of the chick embryo the greater must be the conduction velocity between the two atria and from atrium to ventricle. This was assumed to be related to the degree of development of the specialized conduction pathways that are probably absent or underdeveloped in early stages of development. ADDITIONAL

Embryonic Toxico-pathological Effects of Origanum vulgare: Evaluation of the Gross and Histopathological Lesions using a Chick Embryo Model

Background & Objective:  Toxico-pathological effects of herbal plants have always been a major concern, but little information is provided on the toxico-pathological effects of origanum on the fetus. Due to ethical rules and regulations, no drug experiment on the human fetus is permitted; hence, the chick embryo model is used as an ideal opportunity to study the adverse effects of drugs. This ...

O-8: Critical Role of Hyaluronan System in Pre-Implantation Embryo Development and Establishment of Pregnancy

Background: Hyaluronan (HA) is a structural component of extracellular matrix synthesised by HA synthases HAS1-3, which produce HA of different molecular sizes with distinct biological functions associated with reproductive processes. Hyaluronidase (HYAL) cleaves the HA into biologically active small fragments which are known to regulate cell proliferation through CD44 receptor signaling. HA is...

Comparison of optic lens proteins among animals at different stages of development

The purpose of this investigation was to study and compare the electrophoretic patterns of optic lensproteins of different species of domestic animals at pre- and post-natal ages. Optic lenses were removed from the embryo or adult sheep, cattle, goat, camel and chicken at the slaughter-house then homogenized and subjected to sodium dodecylsulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). I...

Liver Histogenesis in Chukar Partridge (Alectoris Chukar) Embryo

Introduction: In chick embryo, endodermal component of the liver becomes split into 2 diverticula in a short time. The anterior diverticulum lies to the left of the ductus venosus and the posterior one to its right side. As the liver primordium grows, it is invaded by the embryonic veins. Based on the different incubation time periods and evolutionary origin of avian species...
